On Saturday, April 23rd Jimmy and I and many local volunteers participated in the Disabled/Handicap Spring Turkey Hunt. The event was organized by Talon Outdoors with many businesses joining the effort. We all met together before the hunt to register and have a great breakfast. Of the 15 registered handicap hunters, thirteen were able to make the hunt. Our hunter was Greg Allen, a wheelin' sportsman from Atlanta. His brother in law, Jerry Willard joined him for the hunt and we headed out early to get in position before daylight. Our hunt took place on a beautiful plantation called
The Empress Rod & Gun Club and our host was Charlie Ward. Charlie helped us locate the birds we hunted and on Friday morning he put us in positions to make our plans for the Saturday hunt. Scouting and understanding the terrain and the birds movements play a very important role in our success. Cabela's Youth Turkey Calling Contest
Cabela's sponsored a Turkey Calling Contest for kids age 10 - 16 years old. Jimmy and I were on hand to help with the contest and to take the winners on a turkey hunt . All the callers received prizes from Cabela's and the winners received $200 in store merchandise and a guided turkey hunt the following day. The local NWTF Chapter had volunteers on hand to help with the calling seminars, judging of the contest and working with local land owners to provide our hunting opportunities. Also on hand was a Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries Enforcement representative that gave the kids good information about game laws and safety. There was plenty of excitement as the event began store-wide with an audience of parents and interested customers. The contest had several kids that had never called before and some that had some calling experience. They had to do 4 calls; a hen yelp, a cluck & purr, a lonesome hen and their favorite call. The calling contest winner and a caller drawn out of all the callers received merchandise and a guided turkey hunt.

Front row: Kurtis Tamplain(Drawing Winner), Garrett Booksh(Calling Contest Winner)
A Special Thanks to Darren Ramirez for his support(Not pictured)
The guided turkey hunt was on the following day after the calling contest. Both winners were taken on a guided turkey hunt on land provided by local landowners. Both properties had better than average chances of having a gobbler come in for a shot. Both hunters saw and heard turkeys and Garrett was the lucky hunter to have a nice gobbler come in close for a shot. The bird did a lot of gobbling and strutting and Garret made a great shot at about 13 yards to harvest his longbeard. Garrett's dad, Miles was in the blind along with Lucky Needham and myself. We capturewd the hunt on video and will have highlights up soon. Congratulations Garrett on getting your second gobbler and winning the Cabela's Youth Calling Contest!

There were a lot of outdoor celebrities at the Bassmaster Classic and I had to get my picture with Mike and T-Mike of the popular TV Series "Swamp People".
Jimmy and I headed to New Orleans, Louisiana for the 2011 BASS MASTER Classic. We were working the Cabela's Exhibit showing young and old how to work different types of turkey calls. Big crowds were onhand to see all the exhibitors that had everything you could think of for fishing. Kevin Van Dam won the 3 day tournament with a record 69lbs. 11oz. total weight. It was exciting to watch the daily video clips and see the grand finale weigh-in! Above are some pictures I took at the last weigh-in.

Jimmy and I headed to Atlanta, Georgia and attended the Forrest Wood Cup FLW Outdoors bass fishing championship. The fishermen all pre-qualified for this prestigious fishing event and fished as a Co-Angler in the back of the boat or the Professional in the front. The fishing tournament was held on Lake Lanier with the weigh-in each day at the Gwinnett Conference and Expo Center. Top prize for the winners were $60,000 for the Co-angler and $500,000 for the Professional. Jimmy and I were there to promote Turkey Calls and help visitors as they walked through the Cabela's outdoor exhibit. The weigh-in and Expo was open to the public and thousands of people came to see exhibits by many of today's best fishing and outdoor manufacturers. Cabela's Spring Great Outdoor Days
Jimmy and I headed West to Gonzales, Louisiana over the week-end to take part in the Cabela's Spring Great Outdoor Days sale event. It was our first chance to meet the public as Cabela's Pro Staff. We were excited about the opportunities to share our passion and knowledge about turkey hunting . The crowds were big and we had a great time talking with people from all over the Southeast.
Cabela's has stores all over the United States and the store in Gonzales, Louisiana serves many of the sportsmen and women of the South. The Cabela's store is located on I-10 at exit 177 in Gonzales, Louisiana. If you are in the area or get anywhere close, be sure to stop in and see all the great products and services available. The displays are beautiful and educational for the whole family.
We hope all of you have a safe and enjoyable turkey season. Remember, it is a great sport to share with others. Take someone with you this season and introduce them to the great outdoors and the gobbles of an Ol' Wild Turkey!
Happy Hunting

The Outdoor Adventure Team travels
to Mer Rouge, Louisiana. Today's guest are Rod Casey and Steve Gupton, both from Valdosta, GA. Steve has his dog "Pup", a yellow labrador retriever.
We are hunting with our good friends Davy and Colby Daniels. We have hunted with Davy and Colby for many years now and in most cases have had great success seeing and shooting ducks and geese. As you know, duck killing isn't guaranteed, that's why we call it hunting. Davy and Colby farm this area and provide quality guide service for duck hunters that book a hunt with "Top Gun", their guide service.
